Conroe is a Community that Cares!

    August 17, 2023

Like a warm blanket on a cool evening, the fabric of a community can bring warmth and security to the individuals, businesses and organizations living and working within. A community’s capacity to care for others through charitable giving and programmatic efforts can raise the quality of life, impart a shared sense of belonging, strengthen economic vitality and simply give a chance to those who struggle.

In 2022, Americans gave almost $500 billion to charity. While that was more than a 3% decline from 2021 and a year-to-year decline for the first time since 2009, that giving was comparable to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels. As inflationary signs and general economic struggles persist in 2023, communities nationwide continue to turn to local nonprofit organizations to help those in need.

    Conroe Gives!

Fortunately for those in Montgomery County, Conroe is a giving community. The form of giving and the organizations involved are as varied as the interest and passions of residents.

    Social Service

Angel Reach helps individuals between 16-24 years old with obstacles of broken families and a broken system.

CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County is a court-appointed organization that advocates for abused and neglected children.

Children’s Safe Harbor works to achieve justice and healing for abused children in Montgomery, Walker and San Jacinto County from its Conroe location.

Yes to Youth Montgomery County Youth Services provides counseling, shelter and empowerment for youth and families.

The Women’s Center of Montgomery County has focused on eliminating domestic violence and other abuse since 1976.

Community Assistance Center has served Montgomery County since 1981 by providing basic needs services and long-term management for those struggling financially.

Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County utilizes volunteers to build homes and provide affordable housing, empowering individuals to gain independence.

    Addressing Hunger

Keep Us Fed Montgomery County targets food insecurity within the community by recovering and redistributing more than 4,000 pounds of excess nutritional food daily.

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County has provided nutritious meals, caring contacts and transportation to nearly 1,000 seniors for 50 years.

Montgomery County Food Bank seeks to provide hunger relief by receiving, processing, packaging and distributing donated and surplus food while uniting the community through a network of partner agencies.

    Animal Care

Henry’s Home Horse Sanctuary is a horse sanctuary program rehabilitating horses while utilizing them in various PTSD and other therapy programs.

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter relies on volunteers to help animals in Montgomery County for humane and high-quality care.

    Community Health

Lone Star Family Health Center is a full-service state-of-the-art family medicine provider operating facilities in Conroe, Spring, Willis, Grangerland and Huntsville. Moreover, they direct a fully integrated family medicine residency program to develop more skilled family doctors for our community.

Nonprofits are not the only organizations that care about the residents of Conroe. HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is a major healthcare provider in the Houston area with a facility in Conroe. Staff members volunteer thousands of hours annually for organizations throughout the region. The organization provides millions of dollars in charity care, uninsured discounts and other uncompensated care.

    National Nonprofit Day

August 17 is National Nonprofit Day, intended to recognize those individuals and organizations that work to promote awareness of and offer assistance to individuals and families in need. Their tireless efforts help improve the quality of place and give hope to millions of people across the country. The magnitude of nonprofits' presence is unknown to most. Approximately 1.5 million nonprofit organizations employ about 10% of the U.S. workforce, the third largest collection after retail and manufacturing. Their efforts result in nearly 6% of the country's GDP.

Now is the time to promote your nonprofit organization or recognize the volunteers and donors that make your endeavor possible. The #NationalNonprofitDay is a great way to inspire others to get involved or create awareness for your cause.

    Conroe Cares!

Nonprofits often cite the last week of the year as their busiest regarding donations. Instead, think of this time of year and National Nonprofit Day as a time to donate, volunteer or recognize nonprofits in the Conroe area. In addition to those organizations listed above, other area nonprofits can be found at the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, Greater East Montgomery County Chamber and Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. Or connect with us to learn more about the nonprofits that make Conroe such a wonderful community!
