    Conroe Celebrates Its Manufacturers!

    October 1, 2021

Conroe, Texas, is one of the fastest-growing communities in the country, and a significant driver of that growth is the presence of a diverse, vibrant collection of manufacturing companies that create careers full of opportunities for advancement and stability. Held on October 1, National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) presents the perfect opportunity for the Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) to proudly recognize our local manufacturers for their employment opportunities, innovations, and dedication to the community!

Manufacturing Day Stretches Through the Whole Month of October

Launched annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month, MFG Day showcases the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. With the theme of “Creators Wanted,” the focus is on building the workforce of the future by educating America’s youth about the incredible career pathways that modern manufacturing offers.

    Manufacturing in Conroe

MFG Day is an excellent time to call attention to the many manufacturing companies in Conroe. Manufacturers such as Crown, Borden Dairy, Kayden Industries, and Stainless Structurals, just to name a few, produce high quality products and consistently innovate to keep in step with and progress their industries. We are proud of these and all our companies that have made their home in Conroe and are helping to inspire the next generation of makers!

    Manufacturing Sector Growth in Texas

Manufacturing’s importance throughout Texas is due to the sector’s stability and growth. In fact, manufacturing contributes 13.07% to the Gross State Product annually, according to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The export of manufacturing goods from Texas was also over $203 billion in 2020, creating jobs and economic opportunities for the state.

The Texas manufacturing industry employed more than 880,000 people in 2020, and as reported by NAM, the average annual compensation for Texas’ manufacturing jobs exceeded $90,000 in 2019. Upon graduating high school or trade school, students can begin working for one of Texas’ manufacturing companies and, within a few years, reach a level of income that surpasses the average household income in the United States.

    Reasons to Locate in Conroe

Conroe offers several advantages to national and global manufacturing companies, beginning with its strategic location and robust infrastructure. Located just 40 miles north of Houston along I-45, businesses can reach the Texas cities of Dallas and San Antonio, and Lafayette, Louisiana, within a three-hour drive on dependable, safe major interstates and highways. Air transportation is immediately accessible to Conroe businesses, with the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport and its U.S. Customs facility nearby. In addition, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is a short 30-minute drive from the city. International markets can also be accessed through the Port of Houston, the largest Gulf Coast container port and second largest tonnage port in the United States, just 45 miles south of Conroe.

The world-class transportation available is matched by equally impressive utility infrastructure. Fast broadband internet speeds exist with fiber optic service offered throughout Conroe from a number of suppliers. Electricity, natural gas, and water are all abundant and delivered in a cost-efficient manner.

Sites and buildings are available in Conroe for manufacturing companies looking to relocate or expand. Businesses have the room they need to grow in Conroe, and the CEDC is available to make it easy to find the perfect location.

Texas also provides a very favorable tax environment for businesses, beginning with the fact it has no individual or corporate income tax. The Tax Foundation ranked Texas with the 11th best state business tax climate index for 2021. In addition, the CEDC can help businesses understand if any incentives may be available to make the move an even better investment.

Finally, Conroe has a large pool of skilled workers who are loyal and dedicated with access to workforce resources. The CEDC is able to leverage relationships with area educational institutions like Sam Houston State University, Lone Star College, and the University of St. Thomas - USTMAX Center to train and attract talent.
