The Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) and its partners showcased their commitment to Conroe’s workforce with the 9th Annual Conroe Job Fair. Held on March 30, the Job Fair utilized a virtual format to safely connect job seekers with employers. The event found success in its new format with more than 20 hiring companies and 100 registered job seekers.

The virtual platform, hosted by Workforce Solutions, allowed job seekers to search and apply for open positions. The interactive platform made it appear as if the applicant was walking into the lobby of the company’s building. Once inside the company’s virtual lobby, job seekers accessed information about the company, browsed job openings, and sent messages to chat with hiring managers. One company operated a live Zoom to conduct face-to-face meetings with job seekers.

“Conroe has many great companies looking to fill positions. It is very important that we continued to connect Conroe’s business community to the workforce ready to launch new careers. Thanks to the well-designed virtual format, we succeeded in our ability to do just that,” said Jennifer Matthews, CEDC Associate Director - Business Retention and Expansion.

A diverse landscape of openings were presented at the Job Fair, including careers in healthcare, manufacturing, finance, hospitality, food and beverage, education, and more. The event was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; however, the platform stayed open until midnight to allow for any of the job seekers that needed additional time to visit booths and send in their resumes and applications.

Job seekers attending the virtual event also had the opportunity to apply for scholarships from Lone Star College. Recipients will be able to use the scholarships to learn additional career skills or to enhance current skills needed to find a career.

The Job Fair was a collective effort between the CEDC, Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber, Lone Star College, and Workforce Solutions. Sponsors of the event included print sponsor ColorTech Direct and workforce sponsor Cantel.
