CEDC Boosts Staff with Promotion and Hire
December 7, 2020
The Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) recently made a pair of exciting staff enhancements. Sharla Smith, hired as Administrative Assistant in May, was promoted to Marketing Manager in August, while Valencia Alasmar was hired in October to fill the Administrative Assistant vacancy.
Smith emerged as a valuable member of the CEDC team, providing support to the staff, communicating with CEDC stakeholders, and collaborating on important economic development projects. She also showed her aptitude for marketing by establishing creative ways to market Conroe as a premier destination for businesses. Smith’s combination of professionalism and talent landed her the quick promotion.
“Sharla has been an integral part of the CEDC’s operations from the moment she was hired. She quickly showed the rest of our team that she was deserving of a promotion to the Marketing Manager position,” said Danielle Scheiner, CEDC Executive Director. “Our marketing efforts should benefit greatly by having Sharla leading the way.”
Smith is excited to use her skillset to execute the CEDC’s marketing plan, which includes the new “More is Made Here” campaign.
“It is an honor to be recognized by my team through this promotion,” said Smith. “I look forward to capturing the best of Conroe in fun, authentic ways. ‘More is Made Here’ will be a great opportunity to showcase Conroe’s unique business community.”
Alasmar joined the CEDC team after nearly 16 years with National Oilwell Varco (NOV). The Houston native studied Marketing at Houston Community College and brings a wealth of professional experience to the position, having served as an Executive Assistant at NOV, Accounts Payable Representative for Shell Fueling, and Credit Analyst for the National Association of Credit Management.
Alasmar is excited to bring her well-rounded experience and willingness to learn to the CEDC team. A Conroe citizen, she is most excited to make an impact on her community.
“Moving to Conroe was one of the best decisions I ever made. I look forward to learning from the experienced team and giving back to my city through the work we do at the CEDC,” offered Alasmar.
Scheiner feels Alasmar brings strong expertise and professionalism to the CEDC staff.
“Valencia’s extensive experience and developed skills are a great addition to the CEDC team,” added Scheiner. “We are excited to see how she utilizes that expertise to enhance Conroe’s economic climate.”
