Record-Setting Numbers Highlight 7th Annual Conroe Job Fair

    February 7, 2019

A record number of job seekers traveled to Conroe for the 7th Annual Job Fair on January 29th. Over 630 registered attendees filled the Lone Star Convention Center to meet with companies and organizations looking to fill open positions. There were also a record number of businesses interviewing for new hires, with 61 participating companies hosting booths.

“This was a banner job fair, in a number of ways,” said Jennifer Matthews, Associate Director of the Conroe Economic Development Council. “Companies and job seekers are getting the message that Conroe is a great place to work and do business. With Conroe’s economy growing and diversifying, this job fair was a perfect opportunity to find skilled workers.”

The industries represented by attending companies showed the overall strength of the Conroe economy. Job seekers found jobs available in the skilled trades, sales, finance, hospitality, IT, education, law enforcement, among many other industries. Those looking for a career were able to discover new industries, explore open positions, and share their applicable skills with hiring managers.

“It can be hard to sell yourself with just words on a resume. The job fair allows job seekers a chance to make a great impression by having a real conversation with interested employers,” added Matthews. “The record turnout, both with job seekers and hiring companies, shows that meeting face-to-face is still a preferred way to find good career matches.”

In addition to finding a new career, registered job seekers were able to apply on-site for scholarships from Lone Star College. The job fair committee will be reviewing the applications and selecting at least three scholarship recipients based on need and merit. Job seekers were also able to prepare for the job fair with workshops in resume writing, business etiquette, and interview skills hosted by Workforce Solutions.

The Conroe Job Fair is a collaborative effort of the Conroe EDC, Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber, Lone Star College and Workforce Solutions. Sponsoring this year’s job fair were Cantel (event underwriter), The Lone Star Convention and Expo Center (facility sponsor), Colortech Direct (printing sponsor), Spectrum (hospitality room sponsor) and The Courier and JobSparx (media sponsors).
