Conroe EDC Hires Sharla K. Smith as Administrative Assistant
June 20, 2020
The Conroe Economic Development Council (CEDC) added their newest team member in May with the hiring of Sharla K. Smith as Administrative Assistant. Smith most recently served as Utilities Management Assistant for the City of Fountain, Colorado.
“The CEDC is excited to add Sharla to the team. Her experience, enthusiasm, and organization will be tremendous assets,” said Danielle Scheiner, CEDC Executive Director. “We look forward to her succeeding and strengthening economic development in Conroe.”
Smith brings experience from various industries and roles, including time as a small business owner, high school teacher, and human resources professional. A native Texan, Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication and received a Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate from the University of North Texas.
A frequent visitor to Conroe during her time living in north Texas, Smith has admired Conroe’s ability to grow while maintaining the warmth of small-town hospitality. She believes that the word to describe Conroe’s future, and hers as a member of the CEDC team, is potential.
“There is incredible potential for Conroe to build on the positive momentum it has generated in recent years,” offered Smith. “I feel as though I am joining the team at the perfect time. There is opportunity for this position to support even more economic growth.”
The time spent working for a municipality introduced Smith to economic development, which helped draw her to this position. Smith’s experience working in human resources as a recruiting analyst gives her a unique perspective on economic development.
“When I worked in recruiting, my favorite part was putting the right people in the right jobs. In economic development, I love the idea of recruiting the right jobs for the right people,” said Smith.
Smith’s responsibilities include providing support to the CEDC staff, communicating with CEDC stakeholders, and collaborating on important projects that advance economic development in Conroe. Smith aims to show her reliability, while learning from the CEDC staff.
“I want to make sure I am providing exceptional support to the team so they know they can count on me. When they see my name on a project, they can know it has a gold stamp,” said Smith. “Additionally, I have a personal goal to learn as much as I can from the rest of the team. They are an incredibly talented group of professionals and it is a privilege to get to work alongside them every day.”
