Sharla Kaye Smith joined the City of Conroe in May 2020, and she could not be more excited to work with such an amazing team of Economic Development professionals. A native north Texan, Sharla and her family also lived in Colorado for seven years, where she discovered her passion for public administration when she worked within City Administration and Utilities for the City of Fountain. During her tenure, she served as the Employee Advisory Group Chair, City Newsletter Editor, and Leadership Committee Member. She was also awarded a state scholarship for the Inspiring Women in Public Administration Conference. Currently, Sharla is a member of the Council for Community and Economic Research.
Sharla’s career has included work in human resources recruiting and global training and development; teaching high school Forensics; and a rewarding experience for a nonprofit company that helped people with disadvantages achieve greater independence through employment placing and job training.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication. She also received her Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate from the University of North Texas.
Sharla lives with her husband, Jonathon, who is the General Manager at Porter Special Utility District. They are the proud parents of one daughter and two fur babies. Sharla enjoys traveling, crafting and spending time with family and friends.
